Clinton woman dies in fatal crash in EBR Parish

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police continue to investigate a fatal crash that killed a Clinton, LA woman Wednesday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened in East Baton Rouge Parish at the intersection of Greenwell Springs Road and Liberty Road just after 10 a.m.

According to LSP troopers, the preliminary investigation revealed that Matthew Harding, 30, of Greenwell Springs was driving a 2006 GMC pickup north on LA 409 when he crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming 2005 Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Corolla, Nancy Pierce, 48, of Clinton, was pronounced dead on the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.

Troopers have submitted a sample of Pierce's blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Harding voluntarily submitted a breath sample that showed he had no detectable alcohol in his system. He also provided a urine sample, which Troopers have submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. Harding was properly restrained at the time of the crash. It is unknown at this time whether Pierce was properly restrained. The crash remains under investigation.
