Other TV disputes (Sidebar)

The Viacom-DirecTV blackout is only one of the recent spats between TV networks and cable or satellite providers.

Satellite pay-TV company Dish Network and AMC Networks are in an ongoing battle for an agreement to show AMC, IFC and the Sundance Channel. Those channels, which were dropped July 1, may not be back on Dish for months, according to the Associated Press.

Hearst Television stations went black for Time Warner Cable subscribers, according to a release Monday from the cable company. Hearst stations include network affiliates for ABC, CBS, NBC and CW.

In October, DirecTV was involved in another public back-and-forth, when it nearly blacked out Fox cable channels. However, the two sides struck a last-minute deal and stations including FX and National Geographic remained available.
