GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Vision Airlines flight which left from the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport made an emergency landing Monday morning shortly after take-off.
Airport Director Clay Williams confirmed the incident on Vision Air Flight 709 carrying 128 people bound for St. Petersburg, Florida.
Flight 709 left at 10:40am. Moments later, the crew reported a smell of smoke in the cockpit, informed the control tower and made an emergency landing after less than five minutes in the air. Airport fire and rescue teams were put on standby. The plane landed without incident.
Passengers left the Boeing 737 while maintenance crews investigated the problem. They discovered an engine cleaning chemical was the source of the smoky smell.
