PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) – Nine people are behind bars after being arrested in a prostitution sting in Wood County.

Wood County worked with Perrysburg Township officials to conduct the sting. One of the people they arrested is employed by the city of Toledo. Robert Castellanos is a civilian fire inspector and was arrested for solicitation.

"We want people always second guessing when they come to Wood County to prostitute or hire a prostitute. They may be dealing with our deputies or one of our local police officers," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.

Every few weeks they conduct a sting operation. Officials said they want to crack down on the behavior and put those who are responsible behind bars.

"We basically have a multiprong operation where we advertise on the Internet both for prostitutes, and have a deputy that poses as a prostitute, so we got both aspects," said Wasylyshyn.

On Tuesday, it worked. Seven people were arrested at a Perrysburg Township motel. Wasylyshyn said these situations may be more common than people think.

"Virtually every time we do it, we make arrests," said Wasylyshyn.

Wasylyshyn said people often have stereotypes about pimps and prostitutes, but might be surprised to learn it could be anyone.

"We've had a doctor that we arrested. We've arrested a computer programmer, a real estate developer. It's people of all walks of life," said Wasylyshyn.

Residents in Perrysburg Township are glad to hear officials are taking an active approach against the crime.

"I think it's good, I mean, that's the only way they are going to get people is to put up these stings," said Nathan Cummings.

The stings are here to stay. Wasylyshyn hopes each one will send a message that Wood County is not the place to go for that kind of activity.

"We hope we have the day where we don't have any customers. That's our goal," said Wasylyshyn.
