There is no direct route to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and the adjoining beach front from I-10. That is why it is so important for the city of Biloxi to move ahead with plans to extend Popp's Ferry Road all the way to the beach.
Residents have a chance to learn more on June 19th as city leaders will meet with the public at the Donal Snyder Center on Pass Road to discuss two proposals for the extension. Currently the only two direct shots to Hwy 90 from I-10 in the area are I-110 and Cowan Road. While both of those are great routes, it leaves a wide area without any direct connections to the interstate.
Visitors to Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center do not have an easy way to get to Popp's Ferry. A new four lane road from the beach front would allow traffic going north to move more smoothly and help residents get to their homes quicker. Also the extension of Popp's Ferry would help in the event the beach front needs to be evacuated because of a hurricane or other emergency.
The extension of Popp's Ferry Road has been discussed for many years and so far lack of funds has prevented it from happening. With the coast tourism industry on the rebound now is the perfect time to get this project started.
