PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - WLOX Reporters Doug Walker and Patrice Clark got a rare look inside the Navy's newest attack submarine, the USS Mississippi. Crew members took them on a tour around the 377 foot sub this week.
The submarine can submerge into greater than 800 feet of water. The sub can move at speeds greater than 25 knots. The USS Mississippi holds a crew of 145 officers and enlisted men and women.
This is considered the Navy's most advanced submarine and is the fifth submarine to carry the name "Mississippi".
A commissioning ceremony will be held for the sub on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m. The commissioning ceremony marks the ships official placement into active service.
