HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Hundreds of Hancock County residents took advantage of the annual household hazardous waste dumping day on Saturday.
The event, held off of Longfellow Road brought in more than a 1,000 cans of old paint, more than 600 gallons of used oil and approximately 7,000 pounds of electronic waste.
Organizers said the event, not only helps to protect the environment, it also saves taxpayer dollars.
"As you know, litter and other things end up on public right of ways and in wooded areas. We have to go along and collect it and clean it up and it's a cost to the taxpayers anyway," Hancock County Road Manager Bill Johnson said.
Organizers estimate more than 300 residents took advantage of the disposal opportunity.
