Bodies found identified as missing mother and daughter

Posted: Updated:

GUNTOWN, MS - (WMC-TV) - The FBI has identified the bodies found in connection with a missing family case. Mother Joann Bain and her daughter Adrienne were found dead in a North Mississippi backyard. Two other young daughters are believed to be with kidnapping suspect Adam Mayes.

Investigators returned Monday to tiny Alpine, Mississippi where two bodies were found over the weekend, now confirmed to be those of missing Tennessee mother Jo Ann Bain and her 14 year-old daughter Adrienne. Two younger daughters remain missing along with suspected kidnapper 35 year-old Adam Mayes.

"We are still searching for Adam Mayes," Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says.

The FBI, U-S Marshals, state and local police finally organized a massive manhunt after new leads in the case determined the Bain family was in extreme danger. The command post in Guntown, Mississippi quickly filled with heavily armed officers who will work around the clock canvassing Union County.

"We can't say that he is in this county. We can't say that he's not. Don't have anything to confirm or deny his whereabouts," Sheriff Edwards says.

While officers search for Mayes and the two girls, Union County residents are being urged to report anything suspicious.

"We all want him to be caught. There's nothing fun or light-hearted about it," says Guntown resident Joanie Reap.

"There's certainly need to be aware and cautious, but don't want anybody to be overly afraid," Sheriff Edwards urged.

The FBI is offering a 50-thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Adam Mayes and the location of the two girls believed to still be with him.
