The Mississippi Department of Education is on the hunt for a new leader. Superintendent Dr. Tom Burnham is retiring.
Dr. Burnham simply says it's time. His retirement becomes effective at the end of June.
Dr. Burnham served as State Education Superintendent from 1992 to 1997, then took the job again in November 2009.
He will formally announce his decision to the board at the May 17 meeting.
