Giuseppe Carlo Cigliola and Michael Doto are both native Italians. They didn't meet until coming to America. Now they've teamed up to bring authentic Italian food to their South Mississippi neighbors with their D'Iberville restaurant Pasta Italia.
"This was meant to be a little coffee shop, a deli shop and a sandwich place," Carlo said. "We experienced the people coming in. They were asking us to cook something for them. We saw people were enjoying what we were cooking and here we are."
Now their Italian cooking skills are put to work five days a week.
"Right here I'm making the Caprese salad. Made with Buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomato slice and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar," Carol said.
Carol and Michael want their customers to fall in love with the flavors and aromas of Italy. They believe the best way to do that is by starting with authentic ingredients.
"What's there now, in Italy, bring it over here and share it with Mississippi," Michael says. "Everything is imported from Italy. All the cheeses, the cold cuts, the meats and the buffalo mozzarella."
Pasta Italia is located at the corner of Rodriguez and Gorenflo in D'Iberville. They're closed Sunday and Monday. Lunch is served Tuesday-Saturday from 11-2:30. Dinner is served those same days from 5:30 until "everyone is satisfied."
