Dr. Teets would begin by determining if a misaligned bite is the cause of your migraine/headache pain. To do this, he would take a detailed dental history and perform a physical exam of your mouth, head, neck and posture. If he determines that your bite is likely the cause of the pain, he would move to the next step, finding your optimal jaw position.
Dr. Teets would use a technology called ULF-TENS (Ultra Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation) to find the relaxed position of your jaw. He would then fit you with an appliance called an orthotic. This orthotic is a plastic device worn over the teeth to keep your jaw in a relaxed state. You would wear the orthotic for a short time. The orthotic doesn't permanently alter your bite, but if your symptoms go away, Dr. Teets can assume that the misaligned bite was the cause of your pain.
Once your symptoms are gone and your bite has been stabilized, Dr. Teets can recommend ways to adjust your bite permanently to this new correct position.
