Retired generals rally for early childhood education

Posted: Updated:

Retired U.S. Generals will hold a press conference at 11:00 A.M. at the State Capitol. Their goal is to ask lawmakers to provide the state with a high-quality early childhood development and learning system for children ages 0 to 5.

Major General Erik Hearon(Retired) and Brigadier General (Retired) Roger Shields say one third of the state's high school graduates don't qualify for the military because they aren't passing the skills exam.

The Generals believe that preparing students early for academic success will not only help them in school, but also help young adults prepare to serve and protect the country.
