Two dead after Highway 98 crash in George County

GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A Lucedale man and a teenager are dead, while another man is fighting for his life after a single vehicle accident Saturday evening.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound on Highway 98 with three men and a 15-year-old inside when the driver went off the road just west of Highway 63.

Authorities say it appeared the driver over-corrected and the vehicle flipped, ejecting two people before coming to a stop in the median.

According to Highway Patrol Spokesperson Johnny Poulos, 15-year-old Jordan Cooper and 32-year-old Richard Lee, both of Lucedale were pronounced dead on the scene.

The other two people in the car were transported to the USA Medical Center. Benjamin Brewer, 35, is in stable condition, but 24-year old Kevin Ferguson is listed in critical condition.

Investigators say none of the men were wearing seatbelts.

The highway patrol is still investigating to determine if there were any contributing factors to the crash.
