If you fought in World War II, there's a group that wants to pay tribute to you. On May 29th, a new World War II memorial will be dedicated in Washington, D.C. The Biloxi American Legion is joining American Legions across the country planning to honor veterans who can't make it to the nation's capital.
The group will hold an awards ceremony that day. There will be a live telecast of the Washington, D.C. dedication and certificates recognizing the achievements of local veterans.
Committee member Bruce Stewart said "World War Two veterans are just something kind of special. They're the ones that really got our country in a position where we could enjoy the freedom that we enjoy today."
The American Legion wants to recognize as many World War II veterans as possible. If you served or know of someone who did call Bruce Stewart at 228-374-4586 or email Marvin Chapman.
The American Legion is also looking for sponsors.
