COLLINS, MS (WDAM) -

Jessica Craft and Eric Barnes said they are furious that their 7-year-old son, who attends Hopewell Elementary in Covington County, came home on Friday with bruises on his buttocks.

The 7-year-old claims he was paddled by the principal for not returning a book and was also paddled by a teacher for not doing well on an assignment.

Barnes said the bruises were so bad that he had to take his son to Covington County Hospital for treatment.

Covington County School Superintendent James Clay Anglin refused an interview but did say the paddling is under investigation.
