WLOX team honored at MAPB awards ceremony

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - The WLOX team was recognized at the 27th Annual Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters' awards ceremony in Jackson on Saturday.

WLOX Sports Director and Action Reporter A.J. Giardina was inducted into the Mississippi Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

He first got his start in broadcasting in the 1970s on radio and became the main sportscaster at WLOX back in 1979.

For more than 30 years he's been bringing the sports and news into homes across South Mississippi.

WLOX Digital Content Director Renee Johnson took second place for the best website in television, division one.

Johnson, who is a graduate of the University of South Alabama, started at WLOX while still a student at Ocean Springs High School in the early 1990s. Before working on the web, Johnson produced various WLOX-TV newscasts.

In 2012, WLOX is celebrating "50 Years Together" serving the people of South Mississippi. WLOX was the first television station on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, signing on September 15, 1962.
