JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Two men who had to be airlifted from the scene of an accident in Latimer Wednesday are still in critical condition at USA Medical Center in Mobile.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said alcohol contributed to the accident, which also injured a Vancleave woman, Pamela Johnson. She's listed in serious condition at Ocean Springs Hospital.

Sheriff Byrd said his investigators believe the driver of the pickup truck, Charles Boyd Romero, 47, of Latimer, was impaired when he ran off Tucker Road. He then over-corrected, crossing the center line where he collided with an SUV.

Romero and his passenger, Gerald Gordon Herring of Ocean Springs, were thrown from the vehicle when it flipped over. Neither man was a wearing seat belt. The driver of the SUV , Johnson, was wearing her seatbelt.

The accident happened Wednesday around 2pm near the intersection of Tucker Road and Daisy Vestry Road.
