Fed up mom punishes teens with embarrassing signs

Posted: Updated:
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Two very unhappy teenagers stood at the corner of Highway 49 and MLK for about an hour Friday night as part of a punishment from their mother. Rose Brown had the kids hold up some pretty embarrassing signs during a peak traffic hour.

Fourteen-year-old Dee Dee's sign read, "I am disrespectful and won't listen in school." Her 13-year-old brother Trey's sign said, "I will be in jail cause I like stealing."

Mom said because the law doesn't allow corporal punishment, she took this extreme measure to turn her children around and put them on the right path in life.

"I got two disobedient teenagers that don't want to listen," Rose Brown said. "I have tried everything and it seems like nothing is working, so I'm hoping this works. They lie, they steal and they act a fool in school, and I'm not raising liars and I'm not raising thieves."

Brown said while the public embarrassment may seem harsh to some, she's doing it because she loves her children and fears for their future.
