Some Jackson County supervisors don't want to see people carrying guns in parks and other public areas despite a new gun law in the state. As WLOX has reported, starting July 1st Mississippians will be able to openly carry a gun and other weapons with or without a permit.   Some Jackson county leaders want to create a local ordinance to keep weapons in check.

South Mississippi welcomes a new tourist attraction today. It's the Infinity Science Center located in Hancock County. Infinity is a place where old and young can learn about space, our oceans and the weather that affects each one of us.

Our own Apollo 13 astronaut, Fred Haise of Biloxi, helped raise funds. Visitors will be able to see his space suite at infinity. They'll also be able to tour an International Space Station module.

It took 13 years and a lot of hard work and dedication from thousands of individuals to make this happen. Roy Estess, the former Stennis Space Center Director along with his colleague Myron Webb dreamed about this facility for years. Then Leo Seal and Tommy Munro spear-headed the community involvement to find the funds to make the dream become a reality.

We urge you to be one of the first to tour this new facility and see why it will become one of the major tourist attractions on the coast.  Space has long played a part in the history of the coast.  The exciting Infinity Science Center captures the past, but also, looks forward to mankind's dream of exploring outer space.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
