Released by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office:

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Wednesday March 21, 2012 at approximately 7:45 a.m. Cherokee County 911 began receiving calls from several neighbors and passers by in reference to a house fire on County Road 3306 in the Churchill Community West of Jacksonville.

Earl's Chapel VFD, North Cherokee VFD and ETMC EMS responded to the scene along with Cherokee County Deputies.  Upon arrival on the scene smoke and flames were visible coming from the Southwest corner of the residence, which was later determined to be a bedroom, and were quickly beginning to spread through the rest of the structure.

As fire fighters were able to gain control of the fire, they discovered the remains of an individual in the doorway of the bedroom where the fire is believed to have started.

Initial investigation appears to point to two heaters in the bedroom, a wood burning stove and a gas heater, as the possible origin of the fire, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by Cherokee County Constable Jack White.

Cherokee County Detectives Jonathan Hughes, Martin Pepin, and Dusty Lee also responded to the scene because of the death, and sent the victim to Dallas for autopsy.  After interviewing witnesses and those believed to be family members of the victim, no foul play is suspected at this time, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The name of the individual is not being released at this time pending verification by the medical examiners.
