GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport father is behind bars accused of shooting his own son Monday morning. Police were called to Memorial Hospital just before 8am after the boy arrived with a gunshot wound to the head.
Officers spoke to the father, Ray Field Walker, and learned that the shooting likely happened near Harrison Drive. Investigators eventually narrowed their crime scene down to the 3500 block of Ganges Street. They also identified the dad as their main suspect.
Walker, 58, is charged with domestic aggravated assault and felony possession of marijuana. Investigators said they discovered the pot while executing a search warrant at Walker's home Tuesday.
Walker is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center under a half million dollar bond for the assault charge, and a $15,000 bond for the possession charge. His son remains hospitalized and is listed in serious condition.
