GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Darrell Blappert pleaded guilty on Friday to DUI causing death, a felony charge connected to the death of Deanna Tucker.
Harrison County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Blappert to 25 years in prison, with seven of those years suspended. The judge also stipulated that Blappert should speak to students once a year about drunk driving.
Blappert had been drinking the night he slammed his car into Tucker. She had just left a bridal shop.
Tucker is the daughter of Gulfport Police Chief Alan Weatherford.
At the time of Blappert's arrest last April, authorities said his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
