Gulfport man gets 5 months for VA theft

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport man will spend five months in prison, and must pay more than $90k in restitution for stealing government funds from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

William Seliby, 51, was sentenced Thursday in federal court. He'll spend five months in prison followed by five months under home confinement. Once released, Seliby will be under supervision for another three years.

Seliby was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $92,399.53. He's been out on bond since his arrest in October 2011. Prosecutors said he will report to federal prison by June 11, 2012.

The case was investigated by the Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Department ofVeterans Affairs. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams.
