Bacot McCarty Foundation kicked off its annual fundraiser this week

It is "JOLLY" Time! The Bacot McCarty Foundation kicked off its annual fundraising efforts this week.
The foundation focuses solely on helping improve the lives of young people by raising money for educational and cultural programs across south Mississippi.
Executive Director Todd Trenchard said, this year's events will be exciting, fun-filled, and all the proceeds will go toward helping those non-profits struggling during these tough economic times.
The foundation has chosen Irwin Edenzon, President of Ingalls Shipbuilding, as the chairman of the 2012 events. So far, the IP Casino has already donated $200,00 to help support the cause.
Trenchard said, his 2012 two-day fundraising weekend will begin with a reception gala and silent auction at the IP Casino Resort Spa on May 11.
The "Jolly" annual golf tournament at Shell Landing Golf Course in Gautier will take place the next day, May12. Trenchard said the golf classic has become the largest in the history of Jackson County with at least 275 golfers participating yearly. The golf classic has raised more than $2 million for the community.
"As we say each year, ‘it's not about golf,'" Trenchard said. "It's about awareness of needs in the community and seeing how we can meet those needs."
The foundation was recently named the top non-profit in Jackson County by the Chamber of Commerce. Trenchard said it's also the largest contributor to the Explosion of Excellence Scholarship Program, and supports agencies like the Boys & Girls Clubs, Excel by Five, Ronald McDonald House, the Dream Program, and Pacagoula's Family Interactive Center.
