New Orleans Saints issue apology

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) -

New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton and General Manager Mickey Loomis issued a joint statement Tuesday apologizing about the team's policy of paying defensive players extra money if they knocked opposing players out of a game.

In the statement posted on the Saints' website, the two acknowledge that the bounty violations, disclosed by the NFL, happened under their watch.

The statement says, "We take full responsibility." They go on to say the owner of the Saints, Tom Benson, had nothing to do with the bounty program and they apologized to him.

The two also acknowledge that these are serious violations and they know the negative impact
it has had on the game. They vowed never to let those violations happen again.
