HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
The University of Southern Mississippi's prestigious DuBard School for Language Disorders has announced an ambitious fundraising initiative to coincicide with its 50th birthday. Administrators hope to raise $2 million by the end of 2013 for a new endowment.
The details of the "DuBard School 50th Anniversary Campaign" were presented Thursday night during an anniversary gala at the Trent Lott Center.
The school began in 1962 with just three students. Today, it serves more than 500 children through enrollment, outclient and referral services.
"We trust that a lot of people, individuals, corporations, foundations, will want to be on board, knowing that with a 50 year history, there's a pretty good reason to think that the investment in the future is a sound one," said Dr. Maureen K. Martin, director of the DuBard School for Language Disorders.
About 40 percent of the funding for the school's full-time programs is provided through private donations.
