Superintendent, School Board Move Forward

After weeks of squabbling the Biloxi School Board and the superintendent kept their pledge to work together to strengthen their relationship... and resolve residents' concerns. Comments by the new school board president drew applause from many people at Tuesday night's school board meeting. David Blaine and a parent took advantage of a 30-minute citizens' comment period to commend retiring superintendent, Dr. Larry Drawdy

"I feel fortunate to have had the chance to have worked with such a visionary. Dr. Drawdy, the impact you've had on this school district and this community will last a lifetime," said David Blaine, Biloxi School Board President

Parent Pam Pitano said, "I commend the board and Dr. Drawdy for the efforts made this past week to resolve the current difficulties to move forward. I thank Dr. Drawdy for his dedication and commitment, and all that he's done for this district."

The citizen's comment period was one of the changes the school board said it would make in a joint response to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The independent accreditation agency is looking into some residents' concerns that the school board may have overstepped its authority. Also tonight, Dr. Drawdy was supposed to present his Superintendent's Report, but he didn't have much to say. Instead, he only said that for the sake of the students it was time to move forward.
