BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi Police estimate more than 100,000 people celebrated Fat Tuesday in downtown. Of those, only 51 people were arrested, including 37 adults and 14 juveniles.
Police Chief John Miller said the adult arrests were down this year compared to last year, but juvenile arrests were up.
With 14 arrests, not surprisingly, public intoxication was the biggest offense. Eleven people were charged with underage possession of alcohol, and two were accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Three were charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs.
The remaining arrests broke down like this:
Disorderly Conduct: 9 arrests
Indecent Exposure: 3 arrests
Public Fighting: 6 arrests
Providing False Information: 1 arrest
Warrants: 2 arrests
Police Chief John Miller said the crowds appeared to be larger than 2011. He said assistance from surrounding police agencies helped keep the festivities safe and fun for everyone.
