Beads will rain over Mardi Gras parades

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The sun is expected to peek through clouds today, and temperatures will be in the 60s.  By most accounts, that's considered perfect parade weather.

Four Mardi Gras parades roll across the coast on this Fat Tuesday.  The Krewe of Diamonds rolls through Bay St. Louis at 1:00.

At the same time, the Gulf Coast Carnival Association steps off in downtown Biloxi.  The King of Carnival in Biloxi this year is Mark Donlon Mavar.  Queen Ixolib is Christina Ann Carter.

Coverage of the GCCA parade can be seen on WLOX-TV beginning at 4:00.

At the back end of the GCCA parade will be a rejuvenated group of Neptune members.  Neptune has more participants and more elaborate floats than at any time since Hurricane Katrina.

The Carnival season ends at 6:30 when the Krewe of Gemini rolls through downtown Gulfport.  Traditionally, Gemini has two parades.  But, the Saturday parade got washed out.  Organizers pushed back the start of Tuesday's Gulfport parade one hour, so floats in other parades can make it back to the Gemini parade route.

If you're at a parade today, be sure to snap pictures and send them to pics@wlox.com.  Or upload them to the WLOX Facebook page.
