Preparing for a party, and the debate on drilling

The Mississippi Development Authority is moving forward with plans to allow for natural gas drilling in state waters, as close as one mile from the shores of the barrier islands. But many tourism leaders on the coast say the MDA is moving too quickly, and more public input is needed. Doug Walker spoke with Lt. Governor Tate Reeves about the controversial drilling debate. Hear where he stands tonight on WLOX News at 6pm.

Also at 6pm, what's a prime spot on the Biloxi Mardi Gras parade route worth to you? Would you spend days staking out your territory? Steve Phillips caught up with some folks today in Biloxi who are already set for the big Fat Tuesday party.

The WLOX 24/7 Weather Team is predicting highs in the low 70s for the rest of the week, which is good news for parade goers, but bad news for those who suffer with seasonal allergies. In tonight's Healthwatch report, Karen Abernathy tells us why you can blame the mild winter for all those sniffles and sneezes.

Then tonight on WLOX News at 10pm, Terrance Friday will take us to Wiggins for all the Mardi Gras fun from tonight's parade. (By the way, this is Terrance's first Mardi Gras season in South Mississippi, so be sure to give him some beads if you see him out!)

If you're planning to be out celebrating tonight or tomorrow, please be safe. Don't bring glass bottles to parades, watch where you park, and if you drink, don't drink and drive. Use a designated driver!
