WLOX – 50 Years Together

In 2012, WLOX is celebrating "50 Years Together" serving the people of South Mississippi. WLOX was the first television station on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, signing on September 15, 1962. WLOX was originally founded by the Love family and became an ABC Affiliate on October 14, 1962.

When WLOX went on the air, our studios were located in the Buena Vista Hotel in Biloxi. The hotel is no longer there. It stood to the east of the I-110 loop across from the Beau Rivage. WLOX broadcast local news and entertainment programs from the Buena Vista until August, 1969.

The day the Woodstock Music Festival was coming to an end, people in South Mississippi were bracing for Hurricane Camille. WLOX stayed on the air as long as possible warning people of the coming danger. After Hurricane Camille, WLOX moved to the Werlein Building in downtown Biloxi. In April, 1971 WLOX moved to its present location on DeBuys road in Biloxi.

From the very first days of WLOX, local news has been very important. WLOX News is the largest TV news organization in Mississippi.

The WLOX team has been researching our archives, and we have started airing "50 Years Together - Rewind" video features. We hope you enjoy viewing these nostalgic videos. They showcase South Mississippi places, special events and news stories from the last 50 years.
WLOX will be producing these "Rewind" features throughout the year. We have linked the videos on this page for your viewing enjoyment.

Please stay tuned for more "50 Years Together" program specials throughout this year. Thank you for watching!
