Bond Set In Jackson County Child's Death

Bond was denied Wednesday to an Escatawpa woman charged with the murder of her 5-year-old child.

The body of Kenderick Broadhead was found Tuesday, wrapped in what appeared to be plastic, on the edge of woods in rural Harrison County. Preliminary autopsy results indicated the child died of head trauma, authorities said.

Towander Broadhead, 27, the child's mother, was denied bond on a charge of capital murder after an initial appearance in Jackson County Court. Bond for her boyfriend, Willie Thomas, 43, who was charged with accessory to murder, was set at $500,000.

Police Capt. Mick Sears said Wednesday that while a possible motive was still being investigated, the killing may have resulted from someone "possibly just losing their temper.''

Sears said he understood the woman and her boyfriend had moved to Pascagoula from Prichard, Ala., earlier this year, while the two children had been here only a few weeks.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said Towander Broadhead and Thomas reported the Kendrick missing about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. A daylong search found nothing.

About 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said Thomas led police to the area where the body later found.

Broadhead also was ordered held on $25,000 bond on an unrelated child abuse charge. That charge, authorities said, involved her 10-year-old daughter.
