About 7:30 Tuesday morning, 27 year old Tawander Broadhead called the Jackson County Sheriff's Department to report her son was missing. That's when authorities launched an extensive search for little Kendrick Broadhead.
That search came to a tragic end Tuesday night when his body was found alongside Firetower Road in Harrison County.
"Late this afternoon, Harrison County authorities received word from Jackson County, of a possible body being dumped off of Menge Avenue, in Harrison County. Investigators from Harrison County traveled to that area and discovered the remains of a five year old child," Payne said.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd told WLOX News his investigators realized by early Tuesday afternoon that the child's mother may have been lying to them when she claimed the little boy was missing. She now faces a capital murder charge.
In Mississippi, capital murder is murder with another felony - in this felony child abuse - and a jury can order the convicted person put to death.
Her boyfriend, 43-year old Willie Thomas, also of Escatawpa, is facing an accessory to murder charge. Sheriff Byrd says Thomas led investigators to where the body was dumped.
