LA man convicted in house burglary in Hancock Co sentenced to 20 years

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Joshua Johnson, 25 of Slidell, LA was convicted to a burglary of a dwelling and sentenced to 20 years of prison Monday in a Hancock County Court House, District Attorney Joel Smith announced.

"Johnson is a repeat offender, having numerous felony convictions from the State of Louisiana. The Hancock County Sheriff's Department is to be commended for bringing him to justice" said District Attorney Smith.

According to officials, Johnson was arrested for a house burglary in April 2011 at Jordan River Shores in Hancock County.

Authorities said a friend of the homeowner that Johnson was burglarizing caught him and another man in the act.

When the friend called the homeowner to see if the two men were allowed in. The homeowner said no. That's when the friend blocked the two men from leaving until authorities could arrive.

"Without the quick thinking and courage of the homeowner's friend, it is likely this case would have gone unsolved" said Assistant DA Matthew Burrell, who prosecuted the case.
