GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Long before kickoff, Skeeter's Billiards in Gulfport was getting ready for a super game day crowd.
"[We] have extra staff on hand, extra servers, extra cooks, extra bar tenders," explained manager Jason Streetmin.
Even with the local's favorite team out of the game, Super Bowl Sunday means more than double the business for the bar.
And it's not just the Giants and the Patriots competing for the top spot. Local bars are competing for customers with each one offering different game day deals.
"We try to give out some specials, have some give-away's for them at different quarters, give away bar tabs, and try to draw them in that way," said Streetmin.
Sports bars aren't the only ones who benefit from game day. Experts say the Super Bowl gives a huge boost to the nation's economy during the weakest months of the year. That boost is felt all the way from Indianapolis.
"It's probably our biggest night of the year. The sales are high. It carries us for a couple of weeks," said Streetmin.
The hosting city is expected to see several hundred thousand dollars in game related revenue. With next year's bowl set to come to New Orleans, there are high hopes for spill over traffic and revenue here.
By far, the most money spent during the Super Bowl is on commercials. This year on average, companies dished out $3.5 million for a 30 second spot.
