JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

WLBT found pardoned murderer David Glenn Gatlin living in Alabaster, Alabama, near Birmingham. Neighbors were shocked to know a murderer lives nearby and fear for their safety. Furthermore, Gatlin's new roommate is making some outrageous claims.

Gatlin is now living in an opulent suburb of Birmingham with Earnest Jacks. Jacks claims he's the antichrist and can solve other problems facing the nation

"I'm going to solve Social Security. How I'm going to do that is I'll bomb Florida and Arizona where there's thousands of them and then we won't have to pay them their Social Security checks," Jacks said.

Jacks' roommate was charged with capital murder in July of 1993 after killing his estranged wife, Tammy Ellis-Gatlin, and shooting her friend Randy Walker in the head. Gatlin, who pleaded to lesser charges, was pardoned last month by former governor Haley Barbour.

Walker and other family members of the victim say they are concerned about Gatlin's surroundings and the effects they could have on him.

"For David to be living in an environment like that is not a good thing. It's just not good. That's not my opinion, that's something I know," said Walker.

"It's not safe. David is a cold-blooded murderer and he's living with a self-proclaimed antichrist. That's dangerous," said Tammy Gatlin's sister, Tiffany Ellis-Brewer.

The mother of Tammy Gatlin says the people who live near David Gatlin should be fearful.

"David will just build off this man and his beliefs and theories that he has. So I agree, it's not a good thing," said Betty Ellis.

People living near Gatlin's Alabama home are upset about their new neighbor.

"I'm pretty, pretty petrified right now. It's pretty scary," said one neighbor.

"It's crazy. I don't want him in our neighborhood, you know, a convicted murderer, I've got children. Heck no, I want him gone. He has no right to bring somebody like that into our neighborhood," declared another neighbor.

The families say that it doesn't seem fair that Gatlin went from prison to the Governor's Mansion where he served as a trusty -- and now to total freedom.

They point out Gatlin served only a fraction of his sentence of life plus 30 years, which was supposed to have been served consecutively.
