LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Richie Brown would make his official announcement inside the Long Beach High School gym before the student body, his mom...Melissa, his dad...Richard Brown, Sr., Bearcats coach Tommy Browder and his nephew Aden. Would it be Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee or Ole Miss?
Brown would survey the college hats and put on the hat belonging to Mississippi State. The student body gave its approval with a loud ovation. Richie's nephew Aden unveiled a Mississippi State sweat shirt.
Brown said, "Mississippi State was the first school to offer. They've got a great coaching staff. In my opinion the best linebackers coach. They've got a great family atmosphere. It fits me perfectly and I fell in love with Mississippi State and I'm going to be a Bulldog."
Richie completed his senior season with 209 tackles. He also played wildcat quarterback and running back. He did it all and says Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has him penciled in as a starter at linebacker.
"It's my spot to lose and I'm going to go up there and work my hardest," Brown stated. "You can never guarantee anybody no matter the top recruit in the nation a starting spot. So I'm definitely going to work like I don't have a spot."
Richard Brown, Sr. said, "It's just a fantastic day for our family. I'm proud of Richie in what he has done as a young man. How he handled this whole recruiting process."
Richie says Mississippi State is on the upswing, "We're an amazing class and we're going to do things to keep recruiting the classes. I think Mississippi State is going to turn into something special soon."
