Gulfport police seek hit and run suspect

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Police are asking for your help in identifying the suspect behind an apparent hit and run
accident that may have caused the death of 15-year-old Elisha Skinner of Gulfport.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove told WLOX News, Skinner's family reported her missing Monday at around 9:45 p.m.

At this time police and Hargrove said they believe it is a hit and run accident, but the investigation is ongoing.

Gulfport Police received a call at around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday from someone who reported a body in the ditch on 34th Street. Officials said Skinner was reportedly walking home from a family members home when she was struck.

Skinner was an eighth grader at Central Middle School. Superintendent of Gulfport Schools Glen East said school counselors were on hand Tuesday afternoon to help students cope with the tragedy. Letters went home letting parents know that additional counselors will be at the school Wednesday.

Police are looking for a 2006 through 2008 Chevrolet Impala brown or bronze in color.
