What's that smell? That's the question agents with the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County were trying to answer Friday at a Pascagoula apartment complex.

After receiving complaints about an odd odor, officers went to an apartment on Live Oak Avenue. They said when Justin Clark, 23, answered the door, they were greeted with a strong chemical smell.

Agents asked for homeowner and Clark led them to Jimmy L. Howell Jr, 48, who was in the back of the apartment. The agents said they saw Howell putting two "one-pot methamphetamine labs" onto the top shelf of his bedroom closet. After getting a search warrant, agents found other meth lab related items inside the apartment.

A Hazardous Materials Clean-up Crew was on the scene until about 1am Saturday morning.

Clark, Howell, and 46-year-old Cindy Shoemaker were all arrested at the scene. Officials said all three were out on bond for various charges, including manufacturing meth.

The three suspects are now charged with manufacturing a schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine) within 1500 feet of a church (First Baptist Church), generation of hazardous waste and possession of precursors chemicals.

Justin Clark was also charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine).

If convicted, each person could face up to 30 years in prison and up to a $1 million fine.

If you have any information that could help investigators with this case, or any other drug activity, contact the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County at (228) 769-3302,or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
