D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne said the suspect in a pharmacy armed robbery is also believed to have held up another business. On Saturday around 2:15 pm, D' Iberville police received a call about an armed robbery at the Walgreens on Sangani Blvd. Chief Payne said after leaving Walgreens, officers believe the same man committed a second armed robbery at Lowe's.
After a pursuit south on I-110 into Biloxi and then west on Highway 90, the armed robbery suspect was shot and killed by police. Officers said he got out of his vehicle and displayed a knife in a threatening manner. The suspect later died at the hospital. Chief Payne said the man's name has not released pending notification of next of kin and indications are that he is from out of state.
Officers said in both incidents the suspect allegedly entered the store, implied he had a weapon, demanded money, and fled.
The Biloxi and D'Iberville officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation which is a standard protocol for all officer involved shootings. The District Attorney's office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation. The Gulfport Police Department sent its Crime Scene Investigation team.
