JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -
Herb Frierson has represented Pearl River and Lamar Counties for two decades. On Friday, he was named chairman of the Appropriations committee, one of the most powerful chairmanships in the House of Representatives. Frierson is one of six coast representatives who will help determine how Mississippi spends its money.
New House Speaker Philip Gunn gave chairmanships to seven other coast leaders.
Hank Zuber will head the Banking and Financial Services committee; Jessica Upshaw will oversee the Conservation and Water Resources committee; Scott DeLano is chairman of the Constitution committee; John Read will head up the Fees and Salaries of Public Officers committee; Richard Bennett is chairman of the Gaming committee; Casey Eure was named chair of Marine Resources; and Mark Form by will be responsible for the Rules committee.
The coast no longer has a representative acting as chair of the Tourism committee. However, Representatives Greg Haney, Jessica Upshaw and Sonya Williams-Barnes will serve on that committee.
