Hard Rock Biloxi exploring expansion options

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Is the time right for south Mississippi casinos to reinvest in their resorts?  The answer at Hard Rock Biloxi is maybe.

Hard Rock executives met with Biloxi's Development Review Committee (DRC) on Wednesday to research the feasibility of adding a second hotel tower to the Highway 90 resort.  "I'm full all the time," Hard Rock general manager Duncan McKenzie said, talking about his current hotel.  "From May to August, we don't have one empty room."

By meeting with the DRC, McKenzie's group was able to gather some of the information it needed to ultimately make a recommendation to its owners.

Hard Rock needed to know if land north of its pool would get the regulatory approvals necessary to build a second hotel.

Hard Rock made no commitments to build that hotel.  And it has no announcements planned anytime soon.  McKenzie told WLOX News the meeting with the DRC was simply a fact-finding mission to see just how much it might cost to reinvest in the Highway 90 resort.  "The price of the building is a big part of the equation," McKenzie said.

The Hard Rock GM is hopeful his team can design a new hotel that fits within any budget set by his owners, because if the current resort is any indication, McKenzie knows his downtown Biloxi resort can support the investment.  "The hotel is full all the time," he reiterated.
