MLK's dream comes alive in south Mississippi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Across south Mississippi, organizers of Martin Luther King celebrations hope this is a day on, and not a day off for people who have a dream.

WLOX.com knows of three significant MLK celebrations today.

At 9:30, people in Pearl River County will gather near the Greater Pleasant Valley Baptist church for a MLK parade.  Organizers in Pearl River County hope the festivities they've planned for today will express unity in the search for justice for all Americans.

At 11:00, the annual Coastwide MLK Birthday Celebration parade marches through Biloxi.  This year, the parade is near the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.  Once the parade ends, the annual Battle of the Bands will take place on the coliseum grounds.  Bands from Jackson State, Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State and Tuskegee University are expected to participate.

And at noon, the Jackson County Southern Christian Leadership Conference will host a Martin Luther King, Jr. parade.  It steps off from St. John's Baptist Church in Moss Point.
