JACKSON, MS (AP) - A new group of Democrats is banding together to promote the party that once ruled Mississippi but has been overshadowed by the GOP in recent years. Former state Rep. Brandon Jones of Pascagoula is chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Trust.
He tells The Clarion-Ledger the party hasn't done its part in laying out a compelling vision for the state. Jones says the group will advocate on for various policy efforts and candidates.
Papers filed with the secretary of state's office in February list Jackson attorney Matt Eichelberger as the group's director. Jones says the group is not ready to name its other members. Last week, the group urged lawmakers to shorten the 2012 legislative session to save money - a proposal that has earned bipartisan support in the past.
