Cold weather shelters open doors this week

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Low temperatures ranging from the 20's to 50's this week prompted the opening of several cold weather shelters.

The Hancock County Emergency Management Agency and Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church are coordinating with Lutheran Church of the Pines to open a cold weather shelter.

The shelter will be open from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. on January 12, 13 and the 14. The cold weather shelter is located in Lutheran Church of the Pines at 309 Hwy 90.

The Harrison County Emergency Management Agency has coordinated with the Salvation Army and the Harrison County Multi Purpose Building to open a cold weather shelter.

The shelters will open at The Salvation Army in Gulfport located at 2019 22nd Street and the Harrison County Multi Purpose Building located at 10395 Automall Parkway in D'Iberville.

The cold weather shelters will be open on January 12, 13 and 14 at 4:30 p.m. and close at 8:00 a.m.

Coast Transit Authority will provide transport to those in need on the fixed routes.  

Officials urge residents to prepare for the cold weather by remembering the P's: People, Pipes, Pets and Plants.
