HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
We caught up with some die heart Crimson Tide fans at the I-10 Welcome Center in Hancock County as they traveled home after watching their team win the BCS National Championship in New Orleans Monday.
When Angie & Ken Cottrell pulled up, there was no mistaking where they'd been and why they were in such a good mood.
"It was what we were looking for," said Angie. "We knew how hard they had been working. They were dedicated. I think they went in the first time and were a bit overwhelmed, but they came back this time prepared and ready."
Ken Cottrell said, "Just dedicated fans. Always will be."
You could not miss that dedication from all the Tide fans passing through Mississippi on the way home.
"I wear my jewelry, our house is Alabama. We're Alabama all the way through," said Angie.
Crawford "Bear" Henley, was also in New Orleans for the big game.
"Fourteen national championships. That's a history nobody else can keep up with. Just blew them out of the water. They still don't know what hit them," said Henley.
"This is better than Christmas," said Alabama Fan Bill Whitehead.
One fan wanted everyone to know how Alabama team got its famous nickname.
"A reporter said sometime in the 30s that when the football players came running out it looked like a Crimson Tide with all their red jerseys," said Alabama Fan Angela Keene.
The lone Tiger fan we ran into was gracious in defeat.
"I was in New Orleans at Cooter Browns. I lost my voice, it was so loud there. And a little bit of a disappointment, but I think overall I feel like we had a good season and there's always next year," said LSU fan Michelle Bart.
But the Alabama fans headed home aren't worried about next year. Their celebrations are just beginning.
