It's a voyage that helps introduce tourists to those small waterfront towns that they may not ordinarily think to visit. A cruise ship docked in Biloxi on Wednesday night. Then on Thursday, passengers visited several attractions including the Biloxi lighthouse and the visitors center. The Grande Caribe set sail from New Orleans and will continue on until it reaches St. Petersburg. Crew members said it's the stops along the way that makes these small cruises stand out.

Fifty years ago, 1962, a small television station signed on the air in Biloxi. WLOX signed on air to serve South Mississippi. Since then, we've celebrated Mardi Gras together, welcomed presidents and statesmen, watched you play a vital role in building a stronger military, and applauded as your talents sent astronauts into space.

We've also survived the wrath of Mother Nature. Yet, because of your inspiration, we dusted ourselves off each time and got back to work.

Over the years, thousands of you have welcomed us into your home each and every day. We want to thank you for the trust you have extended to us.

During the course of this year, we'll bring you stories and specials that reflect on our first 50 years together. You'll see those stories on TV, on WLOX.dot.com and on your mobile phones.

Technology has certainly changed in 50 years. But our commitment to you remains the same. We will always be the news for south Mississippi. Whether you go to our web site, get breaking emails on your mobile devices or watch us on your television set, we appreciate that we have spent the past fifty years together and look forward to being a part of your family for the next fifty years.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
