Ocean Springs wants to turn one and half acres over to conservation group

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs wants to turn a plot of land over to a conservation group, officials said.

The city is in the process of donating the property to the Land Trust For the Mississippi Coastal Plain.

The one and a half acres is located on East Beach and was acquired by the city with a MEMA grant to buyout flood prone properties.

The deed that would transfer ownership to Land Trust requires the property be forever maintained as a natural area for conservation and preservation.

Land Trust officials said they plan on planting trees and shrubs to restore habitat for birds which would make it a great spot for bird watching.
