FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Military families who've lost loved ones in the service are looking forward to an uplifting weekend. Mother and daughter Amanda and Jaden Barron from Byram departed from the Jackson-Evers airport to Dallas this morning.

The two are apart of nearly 1,700 military families across the world who receive an all expense paid trip with help from an organization called the "Snowball Express." Amanda Barron lost her husband Sergeant Brian E. Barron in 2005. Jaden was just three weeks old at the time.

Barron says the extended weekend trip stirs up a mix of emotions. She says, "it's not just a time to get together and grieve about memories, it's a time for growing and catching up with people and seeing how they're doing, it's a really nice thing."

In Dallas, the families will go to a number of events, including a rodeo and a visit to "Six Flags Over Texas."
