Mississippi guard unit begins return from Iraq

CAMO SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - Soldiers from the 185th Aviation Battalion out of Tupelo have begun returning home from their 9th month long deployment in Iraq.

Sixty nine of the more than 300 guards soldiers arrived at Camp Shelby last week. The battalion is an assault helicopter unit. It's mission was to provide aerial support in the northern part of Iraq. The soldiers deployed in November 2010 to Fort Hood Texas for training before leaving for Iraq in February. The soldiers will spend the next few days out processing before returning to their families and private lives.

The remainder of the Battalion will return to Camp Shelby during the month of November.
